Nadat hij zijn eerste kennis had opgedaan bij de geleerden van zijn geboorteplaats, voltooide hij zijn studie bij Muallim Ataullah Efendi en werd hij met vijfentwintig akçes aangesteld als madrasah-leraar (müderris) aan de Hacı Sinan Madrasah in Bayındır, waardoor zijn roem en deugd zich snel verspreidden.
